One of the perks of living next door to Lincoln Center is the fact that we have absolutely no excuse for skipping out on the amazing musical experiences that Avery Fisher Hall has to offer. We weren’t going to pass up the chance to see a staged performance of Show Boat, especially considering the star-studded cast. (And student rush tickets were only $16!)
If I may say, Norm Lewis absolutely blew me away as Joe. It was an absolute pleasure to get to see him perform live and it’s an experience that I will never forget. In case anyone was worried, Vanessa Williams has still got it and it’s not going anywhere. Julian Ovenden was just phenomenal as Gaylord Ravenal. (I think Carolyn has a new crush… 😉 ) Our favorite, Lauren Worsham, was spectacular, as always.
Show Boat only played for one weekend, but it was recorded and will air on PBS sometime in the near future. I’ve already told my parents that they’re not allowed to miss it and to set the DVR when it does air.
