Final lead casting for Violet was announced today and the show is set to start on Broadway this April. Tony winner, Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes) is headlining Roundabout Theatre Company’s production at the American Airlines Theatre. Joining the lead actress, are Colin Donnell as Monty (Arrow, Wicked, Anything Goes, Love’s Labour’s Lost) and Joshua Henry as Flick (The Scottsboro Boys, Porgy and Bess, American Idiot).
The show, directed by Leigh Silverman, will begin previews on March 28, officially opening on April 20. It is currently set to run a limited engagement through August 10. Full casting for the show is likely to be announced shortly.
Foster’s return to the Great White Way is highly anticipated after her unfortunate attempt at a TV series (ABC Family’s Bunheads). Donnell was active more recently with Shakespeare in the Park last summer, though his 25 episode stint on the CW’s Arrow (Tommy Merlyn) is likely to have increased his fan base. (It certainly won me over!)
